Shore Acres State Park
Shore Acres was the summer home of Louis J Simpson - lumberman and shipbuilder.
He built his home on the rocky cliffs above the Pacific Ocean,
just south of Charleston and Coos Bay on Cape Arago Highway.
The first home was built c1906. It burned in 1921 and was replaced by an even larger structure.
Sadly, the house no longer remains, but the Garden House and the formal gardens do.
Each Christmas, the Friends of Shore Acres decorate elaborately.
The rest of the year, magnificent gardens are there to be explored and enjoyed.
Where the house used to stand is an enclosed observation building.
